Our Emily Hegrenes is a nominee for the US Presidential Scholarships Award
February 7, 2024
Lahaina Swim Club is proud to spotlight Emily Hegrenes, a dedicated member of our swim community and a graduating senior from Lahainaluna High School this year. Emily has been an impressive swimmer with Lahaina Swim Club for the past 5 years and currently serves as the varsity captain for the Lahainaluna Girls’ Team. Throughout her high school journey, she has actively participated in Science Olympiad and the HOSA organization, holding leadership roles in both.
Emily’s commitment to community service is evident through the non-profit she founded, Maui Art for Animals, which donates all net proceeds to the Maui Humane Society. Emily will be Valedictorian at Lahainaluna and plans to pursue a major in neuroscience with a future in medicine. Emily has already been accepted to the University of Michigan, awaiting more admission decisions this spring.
Emily is not only a Kamehameha Scholar but also a candidate for the US Presidential Scholars Award this year. The program’s selection process involves identifying candidates based on exceptional SAT or ACT scores, followed by a comprehensive evaluation that includes essays, self-assessments, and academic transcripts. Out of approximately 4,000 students identified nationwide, around 650 are chosen as semifinalists. Ultimately, up to 161 scholars are named, including two from each state, with additional recognition in the arts and career and technical education fields.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Emily and wish her the very best in all her future endeavors!
